Royal Heights and Joplin's Established Northeast

Royal Heights sits in far northeast Joplin: smaller ranch, minimal traditional and shotgun homes built from the 1940s on, shaded by mature oaks. Humphrey Park gives the neighborhood eight acres, and the Frisco Greenway Trail runs three miles north to Webb City.

Silver Creek, the South Side, and What the Rebuild Left Behind

Silver Creek was its own village until August 2012, when residents voted to be annexed into Joplin. It sits on the southeast edge in Newton County, and like the rest of southern Joplin it lay in the path of the EF5 tornado of 22 May 2011, which damaged roughly 7,500 homes.
The rebuild left a housing pattern you rarely see: whole streets built to one code cycle in a few compressed years, sitting beside houses decades older that came through. Those homes started from a good place, but they are over a decade old now, and the calls there are about what comes next rather than what went wrong.
